My Treaty of Waitangi Writing 1

A long, long time ago when it was the 6th of February, 1840. A maori man found a document. It had sentences like: “We will obey what is written on this treaty!” Written by the British people. Then the man told the rest of the maori people, then it started to spread all over the world.

Later some British people found out and took away the Maori people’s island. The Maori people were very sad and angry. So they decided to sign that document they found. A couple weeks later a whole crowd of people were standing at the top of the Owairaka Mountain and waiting for the treaty to be signed. The British flags were all over the place because the British people made the Treaty. All of the British ladies were dressed up very nicely.

It seemed to be that all the Maori people were sitting on the ground while the British people were sitting on chairs.

So when the Maori man signed the treaty they had to obey what the British people told them to do. If they didn’t the British people would take their island away forever!
